Study about the Bars Detection in Spiral Galaxies Using the Isophotal Method Article uri icon

Abstracto

  • Cosmologically, the stellar bars within the galaxies are recognized as an important internal factor because they redistribute the angular momentum of all the matter in the galaxy. The objective of this work is to compare the results of detection of stellar bars in images constructed by varying the presence of external elements. The group of galaxies used in the present study are: M83 (NGC5236), M66 (NGC3627) and NGC2903. The IRAF ISOPHOTE / ELLIPSE tool is used to perform the analysis of the surface brightness distribution for each galaxy. The structure of a bar can be recognized by a characteristic change of ellipticity (e) and the position angle (P.A.) from the analysis of the isophotes. Finally, we got positive results detecting the central bar in each of the studied galaxies and we found that the results do not depend on the type of the image.
